The MPCD-SEAMP-HRI tries to unite Hani/Akha researchers in Northern Thailand, Southern Yunnan/China, Eeastern Burma, Northerns Laos and Northern Vietnam in the study of traditional Hani/Akha Customary Law and its adaptation to modern times. The activites include yearly workshops and triennial International Hani/Akha Culture Studies Conferences, as already held in 1993 (Honghe, Yunnan/ China), 1996 (Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai, Thailand) and 1999/2000 (Jinghong, Yunnan/ China).
The Conferences in 1996 and 1999/2000 were co-organized by MPCD-SEAMP-HRI. Since 1993 a core group of native Hani/Akha researchers from the countries involved has been built up, organizing itself in an International Hani/Akha Committee.
The 4th Hani/Akha Culture Studies Conference will take place in October 2002, in Honghe Yunnan, China.
